Statement of Islamic Emirate regarding insult of the great Prophet

September 12, 2012

By Tim Foxley

The Taliban are normally not very effective in dealing with fast moving stories or breaking news.  In fact, in my opinion, their media capabilties are consistently over-rated by many agencies.  I will come back to this over the next week or so – they have put out a few messages recently which underline this.  Here they have a “gift” which they have quickly pushed out, albeit addressing in routine and predictable language.  Speed, good, content less so – with the usual caveat that the main audience for Taliban web-based product is more often than not the international community.  There is still a high potential, however, for this story to become a series of violent protests in Afghanistan directed against the usual Western targets and representatives.  My money would be on Friday after prayers – the Taliban make requests in the statement to Afghan religious scholars to propagate the news across the country and I saw reporting a few weeks back that Mullah Omar’s last Eid address was pushed out in some mosques in the east of the country (Nangarhar).

Statement of Islamic Emirate regarding insult of the great Prophet (SAW) of Islam in America

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan condemns with the strongest of words insult towards the great Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (SAW), perpetrated in a screening in an American cinema with the authorization of its government. Since America declared its open war on Islam eleven years ago, it has repeatedly and on various intervals insulted the inviolable sanctums of Islam. Such revolting actions are not acts of individuals but rather are activities done with the approval or even directly by the government.
We, as the staunch defenders of Islam, make it very clear to the American regime as well as its rebellious transgressing individuals that such actions will not bring you any closer to your malicious goals but vice-versa; it shall further unveil the true satanic face of your government especially to the Muslims and will drive the Muslim world to communally respond with an appropriate reaction.
The bestial natured America has violated the religious, ideological, national and cultural sanctums of various countries and nations in its dark history and has allowed such irresponsible acts to flourish in its country therefore the international community and specifically the Muslim nations and countries should join hands and create an unbreakable alliance against this common enemy in order quickly respond to these evil elements with an appropriate and stern reaction and to contain these gross offences.
The Islamic Emirate also calls on all its Mujahideen to stand firm against all the violations against our heavenly book (Quran), Prophet and other sanctums perpetrated by the invading America. The Mujahideen in Afghanistan should avenge these actions of the American government by dealing a heavy blow to its invading troops on the battlefield. Similarly, the Islamic Emirate calls on all of the religious scholars of the country to fully inform the masses about such barbaric acts of America in their sermons and to prepare them for a lengthy struggle.

What intrigues me is how the statement doesn’t seem to be on the Voice of Jihad English-language site anymore – still available through the jihadi fan site ( ), as well as on at least one jihadi fan forum ( ) – any guesses why?

On the timeliness of Taliban statements, there have been some indications in the past that they do, indeed, read the papers ( ), but I look forward to your analysis re: how the content’s not good. I DO know they haven’t been great at spell check in some cases with names of authors ( ) 🙂

Tony, I was about to contact you and see if you’d noticed it – I got the text in full from a Taliban twitter account. Also, seems to have given up rebroadcasting Taliban messages – or has at least slowed down greatly – nothing of Taliban messages since a rant against Dostum (22 July). aside, the explanation I keep returning to is that various (probably Western) intelligence agencies are making renewed attemts to target the source rather than the message. In short they are trying a technological approach – shut it or slow it down. And try this idea – there is a fake Taliban twitter account (@ABalkhii) that looks, sounds and acts like the original @ABalkhi pro-Taliban account except that the messages are very anti-Taliban. Yesterday this twitter account described the Taliban as “thugs”. It is a strange term to use – its origins are from India in the 18th and 19th century referring to a cult (“Thuggee”) of Indian thiefs worshipping the Goddess Kali who would murder travellers by strangulation. General Allen used the term in a set piece speech recently and it stood out for me in a “why would he use that term?” sense. Whether ISAF is “effective” in its propaganda war against the Taliban or not, they generally spend a lot of time considering the relative merits of the terms they use to describe the Taliban in ways that the Afghan population can understand and relate to. Well, of course this could be a coincidence, but Allen and the twitter account both used the term within a few days of each other…

I think I might write this up as a post…

Interestingly, the material wasn’t on the VOJ English site when I posted my comments, but appears to be now ( – screen capture @ Google Docs ).

Interesting idea re: “thugs” – go for the separate post analyzing the feed.
